Doris Louise Little's Obituary
Doris L. Little passed away on May 18, 2018, at Hickory Point Christian Village, due to complications from an auto accident. Doris married her high school sweetheart Carroll J. Little in October 19, 1945, in Elkville, IL. She attended school in Elkville, Illinois and graduated from SIU with a degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education from the University of Illinois. She started her teaching career in a one room school house in southern Illinois. Then she taught at Elkville until the family moved to Decatur in 1958. Most of her teaching career was in the Decatur Public School System. Doris was a member of the National Education Association, the Illinois Education Association, and a life member of the National Education Association. Her parents, Olive and Adolph Valerius; a sister, Ruby Busby, her brother, William Valerius and infant brother, Jimmy all preceded her in death. Her daughter Carol Lynn Stevens (Milton) lives in Forsyth. Doris became a Christian at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur. The family wants to thank Dr. Franklin and his staff and hickory Point Christian Village for all their kind compassionate care. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Entombment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or the donor’s choice. The family of Doris Little is being served by Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, 2091 N. Oakland Ave. Decatur, IL.
