Dorthea May Wood, 94, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday (06-16-2026) at The Arc at Hickory Point, Forsyth, IL. Dorthea was born on February 3, 1932, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Earl E. Traughber and Beaulah Read Obituary
Dorthea was a lovely woman whom I knew through Decatur Public Schools where I also taught. We taught in different buildings, but I got to know her through our combined school district meetings. I would often see Dorthea at symphony concerts at Millikin University. I have missed seeing her since she was no longer able to be out and about, but will always remember what a sweet, kind person she was. My sympathy is with you. Verlyn Rosenberger
I meet Dorethea in grade school. Orville Spencer. She was a wonderful and caring teacher. Later in life her son Wilson and my husband became friends while attending Richland. We reconnected and enjoyed many Birthday celebrations with her and her family. Dorthea will and is greatly missed by those you were Blessed to know her. 🙏
Mrs Wood was one of my favorite teachers from Spencer. I was visiting my dad at the ARC and saw her name on a plaque but questioned whether it was her. I am 57 and remember her and her class so well!
Here is something i would share with Mom if she was still here. We shared a love and interest in the natural world. Growing up with a school teacher for a Mom who would bring nature and science related things home associated with ongoing teacher education was a delight.
So naturally the various plants and flowers Tom and I grow in our yard Mom was interested in and enjoys seeing.
A rare gathering a couple years ago with aunts, uncles and cousins- while Aunt Ruth and Mom were both with us. Such gatherings were common when the cousins were growing up.
I never really notice the size difference between my better half Tom (Nualkanok) and myself unless looking at a photo like this.
