Dorthea May Wood's Obituary
Dorthea May Wood, 94, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday (06-16-2026) at The Arc at Hickory Point, Forsyth, IL.
Dorthea was born on February 3, 1932, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Earl E. Traughber and Beaulah V. (Claytor) Traughber. She married Archie Wilson Wood, Sr, in Decatur, IL. He preceded her in death.
Dorthea was in the first graduating class at Lakeview High School. She received her bachelor's degree from Manchester College and her master's degree from Illinois State University. Dorthea was a teacher for 37 years at the Decatur Public Schools. She was an active member of the Decatur Church of the Brethren. She played the piano, loved crocheting, quilting, making pottery, baking homemade cinnamon rolls, and loved baking cookies and other treats for everyone around Christmas time.
She is survived by her two children: Archie Wilson Wood, Jr, and Martha Jewel Wood, both of Decatur, IL; grandson: Robert Earl “Bobby” Murray; great-grandchildren: Brianna Murray, Jailynn Schultz, Robbie Murray, Cameryn Keppler, Savannah Murray, Maddelyn Murray, Jaxtyn Murray; great-great-grandchildren: Violet, Oakley and Fin; brothers: Bill Traughber of Decatur, IL, Harold Traughber of Cerro Gordo, IL, and Robert Traughber of Decatur, IL.
Dorthea was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Earl Traughber, and two sisters, Iva Brunner and Ruth Siburt.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday (06-29-2026) with visitation one hour prior to service time at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. The burial will be following the memorial service at North Fork Cemetery. The funeral luncheon will follow the graveside service at the Cerro Gordo Church of the Brethren, Cerro Gordo, IL.
