Everett J. "Ev" Inman's Obituary
Decatur-Everett J. “Ev” Inman, 92, of Decatur, passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 in his home with his family by his side.
Everett was born May 17, 1923 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Everett F. and Ida E. (Weidner) Inman. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the European Theater and was in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Bronze Star. In 2009, he was privileged to go on an honor flight to Washington, D.C. with other WWII veterans. He was employed as an electrical foreman in the diesel shop with Norfolk & Western and Wabash railroads retiring in 1984 with over forty-two years of service. Everett was a member of the Elwin United Methodist Church and the American Legion Castle Williams Post #105. He was an avid reader, walker, and die hard Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed woodworking, flower gardening, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their activities. He married Betty A. Kiser July 26, 1943 in Ft. McClellan, Alabama. They shared over seventy-two years together.
Everett leaves behind his wife Betty, daughter Karen Lents, son Thomas Inman, nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Claude and Wayne Inman, sister Edna Hale, daughter Linda Boehm, son-in-law Robert Lents, grandson David Lents, and great-grandson Nicholas Dehority.
Services to celebrate Everett’s life will be 11 AM Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Elwin United Methodist Church, 1260 W Elwin Rd, Elwin, with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard to conclude the service. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the services at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Elwin United Methodist Church or the St. Teresa Education Foundation.
