Dear Antonia, Johnny, and Vincent,
We want to let you know how much we appreciated the friendship that we had with Felice over the past 52 years. As you know, we do not live close but every time we visited family in the Springfield area, we always spent time with him and of course with Antonia. We will always cherish the many meals he prepared and shared with us. Whether they were his delicious Italian pasta dishes, Pizzas or his specialties—Tiramisu and Shrimp Scampi, Felice always put his heart in making sure that the dishes reflected his care and love for family. We always admired his drive to provide for his family as he prepared for his daily routine beginning at 4:00 AM and not ending until 10:00 PM. Felice’s pastry shop and his many restaurants were not only our favorites to go when we visited but more importantly for the local patrons from Springfield and Decatur who made his places for dinning a special place to taste Italy from Felice's eyes and heart. He was a true chef and he was successful because of his passion for great food, love for his family and his desire to share with the local community. We are no soccer fans, but after sitting with him to see a game or two, we too could see why Felice loved the game and of course his favorite Italian team –Nazionale di calico dell’Italia. Felice worked hard to make sure that his summer garden and fig trees produced enough fruits and vegetables to not only fill his table but enough to share with family and neighbors. Felice was not only Antonia’s husband, her life-long partner, soul mate and your Dad, he was someone we are proud to call our friend. We will miss him.
Felice, your family and friends mourn your passing and celebrate your life. We bid you goodbye, but we will never forget you. For your family and friends and especially for us, who knew you well, our pain will be deep and enduring. But we find consolation in our faith and God’s promise of eternal life.
Love,
Vince and Luisa Cusumano
