I'm so sorry I couldn't make it today to be there for you. Uncle Babe was always so sweet and gentle, I don't believe I every heard him raise his voice, but most of all I just remember a wonderful smile on his face every time I would see him. Babe Thompson was the part-time head of maintenance at Camp Robert Faries while he worked at Wagner Castings back in the 1960's. Scout Executive Don Berg scrounged up everything he could get his hands on at the old Army Signal Depot, and Babe always found a use for it. We had Army crank phones everywhere, telephone poles, Army surplus deuce and halfs, and World War II peanut butter and Spam. Babe will always be fondly remembered by those of us who served on the camp staff.
We were very sad to hear the news about Babe passing. He was a very special person. Our thoughts and prayers are with Helen and Patricia.Babe was a very kind, sweet and loyal individual. He touched the lives of many thru his service in the military and Boy Scouts of America.We look forward to the day we will meet again.
I have so many memories of Uncle Babe. The things that I remember well are his sense of humor, and how laid back he was. I know you will miss him very much, and my thoughts are with you both.
