Fred B. McKenzie's Obituary
Fred B. McKenzie, 77, of Decatur passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Fred was born on January 1, 1938 in Harrisburg, IL the son of Fred F. and G. Pauline (Bond) McKenzie. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He retired from Decatur Public Schools. He taught at Lakeview High School 1964-1982. He finished his career at Stephen Decatur High School. He also coached football and track for many years. He married Margie A. Haarmann on April 11, 1964 in Effingham, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Margie; son Craig Michael McKenzie (Glenna) of Mt. Zion; Melissa Alberssen (Scott) of Taylorville; sister, Kaye Wagner (Larry) of Sullivan; grandchildren, Kyle Alberssen of Bloomington; Kelly Alberssen of Taylorville; Shelby McKenzie of Mt. Zion; and Jake McKenzie of Mt. Zion.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank St. Mary’s Hospital especially the ICU and respiratory rehabilitation departments for all their care for Fred.
Funeral service celebrating Fred’s life will be 2 PM Monday, July 27, 2015 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Chaplain Karla Thornton officiating. Visitation will be 1-2 PM Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to Wounded Warrior Project.
