So sorry to hear of Freda's passing. My family, the Beaumonts, of the Bradbury Free Methodist Church had many fond memories of the Mason family. My Mom(Pauline) and Dad(Bill) and sister(Janet) have all passed, but I want to extend my condolences to you all. If I were home in Tuscola I would have come to Decatur just to remake connections. Dear Friends, I remember growing up one street over from your family and will always have fond memories of the Mason Family. I remember the boat that was parked in the parking lot across from our house. I remember teaching Terry how to play jacks and I remember Jim and the Runnin' Reds. I even remember teaching one of Freda's grandchildren when I student taught. Later in life when we moved to Taylorville, we met Brett. The Mason Family was blessed to have Freda for 94 years. Truly a life to be celebrated. As I sat here remembering your mom (and dad) and especially those long summer nights playing kick the can until the street lights came on, it brought such a smile to my face. Your mom had the patience of a saint with you three boys as well as half the neighborhood trooping through her house. Great lady. Thanks for sharing her with those of us who grew up with you in the Keller Lane neighborhood.

My family lived next door to John and Freda from 1966-1968. She was a wonderful extra "Grandma" to my children. Even after they moved and we moved out of town we used to come back and visit. We both had connections to Cumberland County, IL. She was a wonderful Christian woman.
Jim, to you and your family, I always remember your days in Greenup and the fact your mother had the loudest whistle of anyone I have ever heard. I also remember that when she whistled you dropped everything and headed for home. Sorry for your loss.Dick Hayden
