George L. Fleming of Decatur, passed away, peacefully, December 11, 2025, with family by his side. George was born on December 31, 1944, the fourth of six children, to John Edward and Irene Margaret (Kramer) Fleming. He married Read Obituary
George was a great guy and a good friend to me at Maroa-Forsyth High School and after. He had a faith and inner strength beyond his years even in high school. I’m sorry we didn’t stay more in touch. Sharon and I pray for the Lord’s comfort and peace for Lynette and family.
George was my supervisor at Caterpillar when I started in 1974. He was a good man to work for and treated his employees with kindness. He was funny. He loved his family. I will always remember him fondly.
George was always quiet, yet a thoughtful person who enjoyed his family and friends. He impressed me with his willingness to be there for his wife and family with whatever was needed. He always reminded me of Abraham Lincoln as a stoic man who thought before he spoke. I remember being with him at a Christmas gathering with our families. He had been on a trip and been on the same plane as Chevy Chase. He had some insights into Chase that were surprising but delivered in a way that gave you no doubt as to their veracity. In knowing his family and being around them over the years, I believe he led a life well lived. He leaves behind much to be proud of.
Of course I knew George at Caterpillar. I retired in 2002.
We had various contacts throughout the years. I lead many classes from the Training Division He may have been in one or more of those classes. Later as a line supervisor we had incidental contacts generally regarding assembly issues.
George was a solid citizen at CAT. He was a great resource for assembly issues.
We both worked in the shop during the three major work stoppages and George was always good for a laugh.
I know all of his family and friends will miss him.

I love this photo of George because it is the smile he had on his face whenever he spent time with his grandchildren. I know they are blessed to have the memories of fun times together.
