George L. Fleming's Obituary
George L. Fleming of Decatur, passed away, peacefully, December 11, 2025, with family by his side.
George was born on December 31, 1944, the fourth of six children, to John Edward and Irene Margaret (Kramer) Fleming.
He married Lynette Halicki at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clinton Il, May 21, 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Lynette, daughter Kristen Hise and husband Cary and son, Aaron Fleming and wife Christine.
He is survived by grandchildren, Hillary Fleming, Cameron Fleming, Wyatt Fleming, Kathryn Hise, Lauren Condon and husband Kyle and great-grandchildren, Ailish and Finnegan Condon.
Also surviving are two sisters, Dolores and Debbie, and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding George are his parents, sister, Marie, brothers, Dale and Joe and many other relatives and friends.
His youth years were spent in Pana, Illinois. He attended St. Patrick’s School and Church and served as altar boy for many years. As an adult, he served Mass at St. James Catholic Church for the Jubilee Celebration.
After his family moved to the Decatur area, George attended St. Thomas Grade School, St. Teresa High School, Maroa High School and Millikin University.
While at Millikin, George was hired by Caterpillar and began a close to forty five year career of service to the company, retiring out of Global Mining in 2009. He loved his job and the people he worked with. His job took him many places around the world.
Family was #1 with George. He was a hands on and supportive husband, dad and grandpa. He always made time for coaching, helping, playing or attending as many children’s and grandchildren’s events as possible and was an exceptional role model.
He was a man of strong faith and has been a member of St. James, Our Lady of Lourdes and Holy Family Catholic Churches in Decatur.
George’s love of golf started at a young age and he continued to play, through the years. During his golf days, he had three holes in one. He was a long time Chicago Cub and Fighting Illini Fan. He loved history and sports books, old John Wayne movies and having breakfasts, lunches and annual golf trips with long time friends.
We will miss him but rejoice that he is in the healing arms of God.
Memorials in George’s name may be made to the Good Samaritan Inn or St. Teresa High School, Decatur.
A private, family graveside service and A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
