Gerald W. Hunk's Obituary
Decatur-Gerald W. “Jerry” Hunk, 74, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013 in his home with his family by his side.
Jerry was born June 19, 1939 in Trowbridge, IL, the son of Raymond L. and Leona M. (Kroll) Hunk. He married Kay A. Wiedenkeller on December 19, 1959 at St. Patrick’s Church in Decatur. They had 54 loving years together.
Jerry was a lifetime member of Police Benevolent and Protective Association Unit 39, a 20-year member of the Illinois Police Association, past member of the Illinois Chiefs of Police and a previous President of Police Pension Fund. He served 30 years as President/Treasurer of Decatur Policemen’s Credit Union and 13 months as Decatur Acting Police Chief before retiring as Deputy Police Chief with 22 years of service.
Jerry enjoyed traveling in the RV, camping at Lake Shelbyville, fishing and being outdoors.
Surviving are his wife Kay, daughter Peggy J. (James) Meyer of Decatur, son Steven R. (Christine Tricamo) Hunk of St. Peters, MO, daughter Shelley R. (Scott) Parks of Warrensburg, seven grandchildren- Ryan Meyer, Jennifer (Christopher) Sharp, Clayton Parks, Kelsey Hunk, Casey Hunk, Audrey Parks and Lexie Hunk, two great-grandchildren- Violet Sharp and Liam Davis, brother L. James (Shirley) Hunk of Decatur and sister Ramona M. Zeurcher of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial mass will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Decatur with Father Burnette, celebrant.
Memorials may be made to the Homeward Bound Pet Shelter.
