Glen Hartman's Obituary
Decatur- Glen Hartman, 88, of Decatur passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at his son's home with his family by his side.
A service to celebrate Glen's life will be Wednesday, August 29, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Albert Weidlick officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the funeral home and the family requests that those attending wear casual attire. Interment with full Military Honors and 'Flight Home Ceremony' will be held at Macon County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Boys Opportunity Home in Decatur, Illinois.
Glen was born January 18, 1924 in Harristown, Illinois, the son of Walter and Pearl (Holt) Hartman.
Glen spent four years proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the Heavy Cruiser U.S.S. Boston in the South Pacific Ocean. Upon returning to Decatur, hew went to work for A. E. Staley for the next thirty-eight years retiring on December 28, 1983 as a Roller Mill Operator. He belonged to the V.F.W. in Macon County.
Glen enjoyed for several years playing softball, golfing, and bowling with his family and friends. He umpired baseball for the Recreation Dept. and High Schools for twenty years. Glen was a lifelong avid Cardinal Fan.
Surviving are his sons: Gary G. Hartman, Rodney A. (Linda) Hartman, Sr. of Decatur, Kevin E. (Lisa) Roberts of Forsyth, and Jon K. Roberts of Jacksonville. One daughter: Karen L. Weaver Brown of Springfield. One sister: Irene Hartman Pope of Cowden. Grandchildren: Ryan Hartman; Bridget Hartman-Sullivan; Chad Weaver; Rodney Hartman, Jr.; Jennifer Hartman-Wrigley; Dawson Roberts and Payton Roberts. He also has seven great-grandchildren.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters.
