To the Children of Jack and Francis, I was so sorry to here about the recent passing of both your Father and Mother; Jack and Francis. Your Dad and my Mom worked together for years at the electronics shop that was across the street from Sears (what is now the Library). I moved away from Decatur in 1973, and now live in Denver, Co. We went back to Decatur each year while our parents were both still living, but haven't been back for several years. I remember what a joker your dad was, and how cute your Mom was with putting up with him. I always tried to stop in and say hello when the had the Fix-it-shop. My Mother was Dorothy Herron, and I think you and I share the same birthday Doug..June 30, 1950. I remember the Bar-b-Ques at the house. Great fun..your folks were very welcoming. MacArthur high is having their 50th reunion this year. So when I go back, I'll stop and visit them for awhile..just for old time sake. Stay strong, time helps soften your heart. My Dad Earl did tailoring for Jack and he knew my Brother in law Dan, the watch man. Everyone in my family got a ride in the rolls including my nephews when they were young…something they still remember and talk about. Like my Dad, he was quite a character. He will be missed and long remembered.

Jack I first met as a member of the Decatur Ice Sailing Club in the 60s. An excellent competitor in the DN class. Very innovative and paid attention to the smallest detail. He sharpened my runners and I would go faster. One time he pointed out that every boat that we were sailing was illegal according to our rules which he knew. He could fix anything. Had the privilege of praying with Jack and Doug at Dmh still was sharp but now he's got anew body in the eternal life ahead of him. Smooth sailing.Pete Johns US 2360

We enjoyed knowing Jack. He had a great smile and outlook on life. He drove our daughter and new son-in-law on their wedding day in that beautiful Rolls. Will miss him.

Jack was a wonderful human being. I first saw Jack behind the wheel of his 1929 Model A Ford in about 1975. He had Francis along for a ride that evening. They were driving by the lake and around Lake Shore Drive. My mom recognized them as Francis sister, Helen Roberts and family were friends of ours. Over the years as Jack restored the Model A and joined a car club I grew up in I would see him several times. I remember being at their house with a group of guys when he swapped engines, rehung the doors and several other projects on the Model A.Jack never ceased to amaze me. He once threw a birthday party for himself…He told how he met every single attendee at the party starting with his mom…At an advanced age he took tap dancing lessons…The stories go on and on. Rest in piece my friend….
