Jack Allen Evans' Obituary
Jack Allen Evans, 92, of Decatur, IL died at his residence Wednesday, February 14, 2018.
Jack was born in Paris, IL on January 3, 1926, to Florence and Willis Evans. While attending Decatur High at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific during WWII. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Decatur, IL, where he met a wonderful girl, Frances Printy. After a proper courtship they were engaged and married in 1949. Jack enrolled in DeVry Technical School in Chicago on the GI Bill. Their son Douglas arrived in time to see Jack graduate in 1950. Jack and Frances were blessed with a daughter in 1953, a redhead they named Jaqueline Frances.
Jack was employed as a television technician and later worked in police radar technology, where he holds a patent. He purchased an electronics school, Electrotek, which was one of the first private vocational rehabilitation schools in the Illinois penitentiary system. Jack and Frances owned Fixmaster’s Repair Shop, which Frances managed, for 25 years. At 50, Jack retired and began working on his Bucket List, which included fishing with his buddies Dave Waggoner and Fred Kaufman and collecting old cars. He owned several beauts, including restoring a 1929 Model A and a right-hand drive 1959 Silver Cloud Rolls Royce. In his 60’s he took classes in painting, acting, and tap dancing.
Jack and Frances loved to travel to New York City to see Broadway Shows.
Jack A. Evans is survived by his wife Frances of 68 years, Douglas (Terri) Evans, Jacqueline (Dan) Evans-Moser, grandchildren Clover (Tom) Kincheloe, Casey (Lauren Jarrold) Evans, Cole and Hanna Moser, and great grandchildren, Avani and Hugo Kincheloe and Jack Wilder Evans.
Jack married into a loving family. He leaves his sister-in-law Peggy Shulke and brothers-in-law, Dave Shulke and Bob Roberts and many spectacular nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday February 19, 2018 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
