Dalton City- Jerry Thornton, 65, of Dalton City, passed away Sunday, November, 11, 2012 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.
Services to celebrate Jerry's life will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2012 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Donor Services P.O. Box 4072 Pittsfield, MA 01202.
Jerry was born April 19, 1947 in Decatur, the son of Richard and Virginia (Balderson) Thornton. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was previously employed with the USPS as a letter carrier retiring with over thirty years of service. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, U.S. Bowling Congress, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Jerry enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Illini fan.
He leaves behind his son Josh Thornton and wife April of Rock Hill, South Carolina, daughter Stacy Wachter and husband Matt of Gurnee, Illinois, brothers Monte Thornton and wife Linda of Decatur, Rick Thornton and wife Sharron of Decatur, and Greg Thornton of Mt. Zion, and grandchildren Alexandra, Emily, and Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
