Juanita Mae Hazlet's Obituary
Decatur-Juanita Mae Hazlet, 92, of Coral Springs, Florida, formerly of Decatur, passed away on March 23, 2014 at the Coral Springs Country Club for Seniors in Coral Springs, Florida.
Juanita was born in Dalton City, Illinois to Henry and Rosa Conlin on July 12, 1921. She was the only daughter of eight children. She attended St. Teresa High School in Decatur, Illinois. She married 1st Lt. James R. Hildebrand in 1942 in Decatur, Illinois. After Mr. Hildebrand passed away in Jacksonville, IL,in 1956, she returned to Decatur in 1958 to be near her mother. She married James Layton in 1959. Their marriage ended in a divorce. She married her childhood sweetheart, Clifford L. Hazlet in Decatur, Illinois, in 1969. He passed away in 2005. She worked for many years in sales for J.C. Penney, Goldblatts, and Wards. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, avid Canasta player, as well as having a voracious appetite for reading, often reading a book a day. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and poker, gardening, and loved watching WWE wrestling and soap operas.
Juanita is survived by son, Jerry (Betty) Hildebrand, of Coral Springs, FL, daughters, Brenda McFadin of Bakersfield, CA, Sharon (James) Fuller of Greenville, SC; stepsons Turney (Ruth) Hazlet of Hastings, MN, Clifford (Pam) of Stonington, IL; stepdaughters Janet Layton Steele, Dallas, GA, Linda Layton Hagen (Bob), Manteca, CA, Kathy Layton Barnes (Mike), Cape Coral, FL; seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers.
The family of Juanita Hazlet wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, the nurses, and assisted-living staff that made her final days comfortable. Special thanks to Coral Companions, Inc. who assisted in her care.
Services to celebrate Juanita’s life will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur. In lieu of flowers please contribute, in her name, to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
