Laura Marie Marietta's Obituary
Laura Marie Marietta, 76, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away June 11, 2024.
Laura was born in Decatur on December 4, 1947, the daughter of Raymond and Mildred (Eades) Stare. She married Gerald Marietta on June 26, 1993, in Decatur. Laura was an LPN, retiring after 40 years of caring for patients in the Cardiac Care unit of Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was a faithful member of Central Methodist Church before it closed its doors. She created and directed the children’s program at the church, including the children’s choir. She raised her voice in praise of God in the church’s Good News Choir. Outside of the church, she generously shared her trumpet-playing talent in the Goldenaires. Laura and Gerald together distributed thousands of Gideon Bibles and Testaments to seven counties in the area.
Laura is survived by her husband Gerald and her caregiver Tabrina Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Benny Stare.
Visitation for Laura will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, June 20, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday, June 21, in the funeral home. Burial in Fairlawn Cemetery will follow the service.
Extra-special thanks go to caregiver/advocate/friend Tabrina Thomas for the extraordinary care and concern she gave to Laura over the years. Words cannot express how deeply she is appreciated for the many ways she helped Laura during her illness.
