To Leslie, Rod and family. We just found out today that Gene had passed. We are so sorry – what a wonderful man. Ron and Gene at the Legion (or wherever) – we wish we had just one more chicken or catfish dinner with them. They were two of a kind but all the better if Wilma and Shirley could join. He was such a great friend to Ron and we relied on him heavily when Ron grew ill. We have such fond memories as I’m sure you all do……………condolences, Jerry and Judy
I grew up next door to Gene on N. Taylor Street in Decatur. I took over his evening Review newspaper route from him when he moved on. He was a great friend all during my growing-up years. I worked for his older brother Bob at Caterpillar at one point. His mother and father were wonderful people. I knew Gene’s wife Shirley. Gene will be missed. I offer my sincere condolences to his family.
I am a nurse who took care of Gene and Shirley, and I loved them both. They were so sweet to me and devoted to each other. I am amazed that Gene lived so long after facing such a challenging disease and difficult surgery. They are among the most delightful people it was my pleasure to care for in my career.
