Linda Lee Hasenmyer's Obituary
Linda DeMar Hasenmyer, age 69, passed away at her home Tuesday May 16, 2017 with her family by her side.
Linda was born November 8, 1947 at her family’s farmhouse outside New Haven, Kentucky. She was born to Malachi and Katherine DeMar. Linda began her education in a two room school house and studied there until 5 the grade then she moved to Bardstown, Kentucky to complete grade school and high school.She and Wayne Hasenmyer married August 31, 1968. They attended Campbellsville University where Linda received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught school in Louisville, Buffalo, and Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
After those years Wayne and Linda joined the Southern Baptist Missionary organization and served as missionaries to Japan from 1971-78. Their time was spent in Tokyo, Hokkaido, and Sapporo. Their furlough time was spend speaking at churches sharing about our experiences in those locations and raising money. In 1978, her family returned to America and lived in Southern Indiana and then moved to Evansville, Indiana where Linda taught at Evansville Christian School. Wayne’s job took her to Decatur, IL where he became a regional buyer for PPG and she worked for Decatur Public School, including the Washington Elementary, Gifted Coordinator and Franklin Elementary School. Linda taught from 1988 to 1993.
Linda left the Decatur school district to begin SAFE school program, where she was hired as a teacher and then became director of SAFE school for the Macon Piatt Regional Office. In 2000, worked for ROE offices for Ullin county and Lee Ogle counties in Southern Illinois. She remained employed by them until 2007. She covered all 24 counties in Southern IL and retired in 2007. She was then hired as a part employee for the Consortium for Educational Change. She began her work in Carterville, IL at IEA office. Later Linda moved to back Decatur IL where she did tech support for “Growth through Learning”. She volunteered her time working with the Decatur Sister City Program and was a Member of Central Christian Church.
Linda was a loving and devoted Mother. Her love of teaching influenced her own children and the many children she taught in her career. She loved art, gardening, photography, and creating crafts with her granddaughters.
Surviving are her loving son, Michael Hasenmyer and his wife Stephanie Hasenmyer, her daughter, Kimberly Miller and husband Kevin Miller. Her
granddaughters Ella and Emma Hasenmyer and Audrey Miller. Sister, Sally Music, step sister, Barbara Moen, and several nieces and nephews.
The following preceded her in death: her father, mother, husband Wayne of 27 years and half-brother Bobby DeMar.
Memorial services for Linda will be held at Central Christian Church on May 27th at 11:00 am. Visitation will be from 9-11am at the church.
