Lois was born July 18, 1927, in Clinton, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Mae (Winkler) Powless. Lois was retired from Kelly Foods. She married Donald Harned on April 26, 1974. They recently celebrated their 37th anniversary. Don has been a loving, caring husband, and he has taken great care of her as her health has deteriorated.
Lois is survived by her husband Don; son, Larry Steele (Phyllis) of Iowa City, Iowa; daughters, Barb Bolin (Leon) of Decatur, Karen Steele of Clinton, Sharon Hartsfield of Tampa, Florida, Cathy Scheller (Stu) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Joan Price (Jack) of Windsor, Colorado; 16 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Terry; her parents; sisters, Leta, Velma, & Phyllis; and brothers, 'Cy' (Vernon), Merle, & Berle.
Don and Lois loved traveling to visit children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in Florida, Ohio, Iowa, and Colorado. Lois enjoyed telling stories of her experiences of living through the depression and her work at the Illinois Central Railroad during World War II.
Lois took most opportunities to turn a situation into a celebration. She enjoyed a good picnic, especially if it involved a family reunion. She collected bells from each state that she had visited. Although macular degeneration had diminished most of her vision, pictures of family and places she had visited were among her most prized possessions. Lois passed on family history through her stories, and she loved to laugh. She will be greatly missed.
