Brave teacher 1973
The trip in 1973 summer to Germanspeaking countries in Europe with many teen studends MacArthur High School from Decatur, Illinois. A brave teacher to take us there .
Mr. Pondelick and Anne,I just heard about Frau's passing. I am so sorry to hear about Frau Pondelick. I think she was my favorite teacher. I remember well the trip she took us to Austria on after I graduated. I also let my parents know. I will really miss her. The next trip to Decatur I will try to stop by and see you. Leo and Lisa, I did not know of Annes passing until just a few minutes ago. I will miss our "over the fence" conversations and her lively spirit. I am so sorry for your loss. God bless you and I will keep you in my prayers. Again, I am so sorry. She was a very lovely lady and friend.
Lisa-I just learned of Frau's passing, and I am so sorry. I was in her class from 1979 – 1982. She was a wonderful teacher, and I really learned to appreciate the German culture in her class. I was skeptical of being able to converse fluently in German, but by the end of of third year I was pretty good. I remember the soccer games in the Fall and Spring; learning to waltz; and singing Christmas caroles in the halls.I also remember bringing my daughter to her class. Ashley was two months old. Frau took Ashley, and sang to her in German while waltzing in the room. It's one of my most fond memories. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.Tina Loury Strickland (Class of 1982)
I just learned of Frau's passing, and I am deeply sadden. I was a student in her class for three years. I remember our soccer games, learning to waltz, and singing German Christmas caroles in the halls. She was a wonderful teacher. I also remember returning to her classroom after the birth of my daughter. Frau took Ashley into her arms, and sang a German song to her while she waltzed.Lisa, my sincerest condolences to you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss.Tina Loury Strickland
We didn't know each other well, but I remember you. thank you.
Lisa,You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. Nothing stands out more in my memories from high school than my four years in "The Frau's" class. I certainly wasn't her best student, but I learned a great deal, and I even took a couple semesters of German in college. I don't think I completely appreciated The Frau until much later. Even my wife, who took French at MacArthur, knew and respected Frau Pondelick. My wife even remembers the various things we did in German class, like singing Christmas songs in German throughout the school building. My wife and I have both lost our mothers within the past year, and know how you are feeling right now. Lisa, you were in the same class as us but we didn't know each other very well.
