Mary Burkett's Obituary
Mary Burkett, 91, of Decatur passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014 in Fair Havens Christian Home.
Mary was born on March 6, 1923, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Jesse Ralph and Fern (Maxwell) Long. She married Alfred Burkett on December 26, 1973, and spent 40 years together. Throughout her years, Mary worked for GE, and St. Mary’s as a house keeper. Mary was also a member of the First General Baptist for over thirty years. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her husband Alfred Burkett; sons, Lonnie (Vickie) Sayles of Decatur, IL; daughter, Linda (Rodney) Paine of Decatur, IL; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Gary Sayles, brother Charles Long, sisters Martha Long, Edna Stoutenborough, and Evelyn Albert.
Funeral service to celebrate Mary’s life will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2014 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First General Baptist Church, and/or Cancer Society.
