Mary May Nagy's Obituary
Mary May Nagy, 92, of Decatur passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, IL.
Mary was born on March 5, 1924 in Rosedale, IN the daughter of James A. and Myrtle E. (Hyde) Soules.
She was the first Suzuki violin method teacher in central Illinois (Decatur and Springfield), teaching students as young as 2 1/2 years of age. She studied violin with her husband George and was a student of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki for two summers in Metsomoto, Japan. For 37 years she gave many students the opportunity to discover and appreciate the joy of music. To have had so many choose a musical career or playing in symphony orchestras is a testimony to her dedication.
She was a member of the Talent Education USA, Suzuki Association of the Americas, American String Teachers Association, and an Honorary Member of the Zoltán Kodály Academy Institute. In 1941 she married Grover C. Romack (deceased). In 1963 she married George D. Nagy. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2011.
She leaves behind her son, Gerry Romack (Barbara) of South Elgin, IL; grandchildren, Kerry Romack (Adrienne), Sean Romack (Cassandra), and Suzanne Both (Mike), and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, son Ronnie Romack, and brother James Soules.
Funeral service to celebrate Mary’s life will be 11 AM Saturday, November 5, 2016 in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11 AM Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society.
