Max D. Slifer's Obituary
Max Slifer, 76, of Decatur, passed away Monday evening, September 30, 2019, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Max was born August 4, 1943, in Mode, IL to Dick and Mildred (Smith) Slifer. Max proudly served with the National Guard for 6 years. He was an active member of the Decatur Lions Club #296. Max loved gardening and to travel.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Carolyn Slifer; his two children, Jay (Stacey) Slifer and Jane Slifer; three grandchildren, Taryn Hamilton, Chloe Slifer and Peyton Slifer; five brothers, Wayne (Jane) Slifer, Paul (Mary) Slifer, Richard Slifer, Jim Slifer and Kenneth (Helen) Slifer; two sisters, Lila Miller and Nancy (Jim) Mulcahy; and two sisters-in-law, Bessie Slifer and Nancy Slifer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ralph and Russell Slifer; and his sister, Sue Matheny.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Max Slifer will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2019, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2019, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.
