Mellody Kay Ireland's Obituary
Mellody Kay Ireland, 70 of Decatur, IL passed away on March 6, 2021 at her sister’s residence in Dalton City, surrounded by her loving family.
Mellody was born on April 30, 1950 in Decatur, the daughter of Betty June Brannon. Mellody met James F. Ireland while they both were stationed in Japan in the US Air Force, at a LDS Mormon picnic. They were married on August 14, 1974 in the LDS Ogden Temple and soon after started their beautiful family. Jim passed away on October 18, 2017. Mellody is survived by her five children: Laura (Scott) Randall, James (Ellyn) Ireland, Barbara (Ryan) Barkdull, David (Erin) Ireland, Rachel (Matt) Thompson, 19 grandchildren; two great grandchildren. 2 Sisters: Kathy Allen, Georgia (Steve) Sefton, and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Mellody was preceded in death by her mother Betty June Foster, her husband James Floyd Ireland, her daughter Shawna Marie Ireland, and her brother-in-law Randy Allen.
Mellody served in the United States Air Force, from 1970-1974. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Decatur, where she was active in numerous events. She enjoyed reading, sewing, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, and performing work for the temple. She was dedicated to her 6 children and her 19 grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her sisters and family.
Mellody was also involved with her cleaning business with her friend Sharon Sheets.
Services to celebrate Mellody’s life will be at 2pm on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be held from 1pm – 2pm on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the funeral home. Mellody will be laid to rest with Jim at Graceland Cemetery. Military honors will be given to Mellody at the gravesite. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. CDC guidelines will be followed, and masks are required for those in attendance. Services will be streamed at http://webcast.funeralrecording.com/events/viewer/49703.
