My grandmother was the absolute toughest person I've ever met in my life. She was also very wise in many areas. She found a balance to living that was meager in expectation, that was patient with her own pain, and that was resilient to the weathering of time. She taught me many things by example. She was the person who taught me to cast my gaze beyond the horizon I could see with my eyes. She was one of the few truly spiritual people I've ever met in my life, the ones whose faith actually elevates them above the pettiness that most people live inside. I loved her dearly, but I will never miss her because she's with me everywhere I go.
I’ve known her since I was 15. She helped me raise my son Josh. I don’t know what I would have done without her. She has always treated me like a daughter and even welcomed and loved my husband Frank. I can’t imagine life without her and I will always treasure everything she taught me even the simplest things like how to look for cow eyes when you make gravy!!!! She was a hard worker and loved and cherished her family. Rest In Peace dear MeeMaw! We love you so much.
She touched my heart and taught me so much. Nina’s wisdom and unconditional love for her family will truly be missed. She retired from DMH, yet continued to be in the work force at City of Decatur. Until she retired to spend time with her family and pets. Thank you Nina for your respect and love.
Aunt Nina used tough love - direct and clear - and you always knew that she wanted what was best for you. She helping me as a teen learn the value of personal hygiene and the diligence of effort at all you do. She holds a special place in my life as we shared the Leafland Street house together as I was growing up and then was our neighbor on Union Street during the important young teen years.
