Ray Eldon Thevenot, Jr, 71, of Decatur, IL passed away on September 1, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur.
Ray was born on May 24, 1950 in Decatur, IL the son of Ray E. and Julia (LeCocq) Thevenot, Sr. Ray married the love of his life Linda Lowe on June 8, 1970 in Decatur. Linda, his loving wife of 51 years, survives. Ray is also survived by his children: Juneann Thevenot Ryan (Tim) of Decatur, IL; Ray Eldon Thevenot, III of Decatur, IL; Jason Lee (Cynthia) Thevenot of Decatur, IL; Goddaughter: Dana (Shane) Stolte of Forsyth, IL; 4 grandchildren: Ray Eldon Thevenot IV (Cole); Madyson Raylynn Thevenot; Brandy Alexandria Ryan; Sean Michael Ryan ; 4 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; brother: Gary Lee Thevenot of Palmyra, IL; sister: Tina (Gary) Jones of Decatur, IL. Ray was also a bonus grandpa to 4 girls. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.
Ray formerly worked at Essex Wire, and was a construction labor for Local 159 for 23 years. He then became owner/operator or Thevenot Trucking, Inc., retiring in 2001. Ray was an avid race fan and driver, especially dirt track racing. He also loved racing lawnmowers, getting other family members involved. He was also an avid photographer. Most of all he loved his family.
Services to celebrate Ray’s life will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation being held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Ray will be buried in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
