Robert Borsay's Obituary
Robert “Bob” Eugene Borsay was born in Monessen, Pennsylvania on August 13th, 1919 to Adolph and Rose Borsay. He passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018, from complications of pneumonia at the age of 98. Bob was one of six children, he grew up in Monessen and New York City. In the fall of 1941, he joined the US Army and served in World War II where he participated in the landing at Normandy, France for General Patton’s 3rd Army. There he earned the Bronze Star for valor and the Purple Heart. He began his career as a photographer after graduating from the New York Institute of Photography. This brought him to Decatur, Illinois where he met Lois Kathryn (Sparks) Borsay in 1953 and married later that year in St. Louis, Missouri. They spent many years traveling the country for photography jobs, then settling back in Decatur, opening his own studios in Sullivan and later opened Borsay Studios in Decatur which Lois and Robert owned and ran until they retired. Bob enjoyed working hard and living life to the fullest. He enjoyed experimenting with new methods of photography, wood working, yard work, music, and loved bowling which he participated on in senior leagues into his early 90’s.
He leaves behind one son, Greg (Shannon McColley and son Dillon) Borsay of Decatur, Illinois and one granddaughter, Elizabeth (Lucas) Quiles; and two great grandchildren, Jocelyn & Elijah Quiles of Florissant, Missouri
He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Lois Borsay.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Robert Borsay will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with full military honors to be conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the Macon County Honor Guard or Patriot Guard.
