Rosemary Filisky's Obituary
Decatur – Rose Mary Filisky, 97, passed away on May 6, 2011, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born in Herrick, IL to Allie and Eva Miller on August 28, 1913. She married Ralph Filisky on June 18, 1936 and lived in Decatur most of her life. Together they owned and operated Ralph's Pub from 1944 to 1976. After retirement they enjoyed their winters in McAllen, TX.
She leaves three daughters, Linda (U. J.) Booth of Osceola, IA; Pam (Roy) Walker of Decatur; and Sherry (Phil) Wiant of Naples, FL. She also leaves six grandchildren: Jim Wiant, Kevin Walker, Kelley Whalen, Scott Walker, Shelley Couri and Aaron Booth, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, all of whom affectionately called her Grandma Rosie. She also leaves one sister-in-law, Laveta Filisky, of Avon Park, FL. and several nieces and nephews.
She was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan and for her 90th birthday, Stan Musial sent her a personally autographed picture of himself, which she cherished. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Gertrude Layman and Ruby Cothern, brother Ted Redman, and granddaughter, Jodi Wiant
Dewig.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at St. Mary's Hospital for their loving care. We would also like to thank all those who cared for her at Fair Havens Nursing Home during the past year and at Hickory Point Christian Village during her three year stay with them.
Visitation will be held at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur on Monday, May 9, 2011, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 26, 2011 with Rev. Joe Molloy presiding in the Star of Hope Mausoleum where she will be laid to rest. Services will conclude with the 'Flight Home Ceremony'. Memorials may be sent to Holy Family Catholic Church.
