Shirley Canellas' Obituary
Shirley Canellas, 88, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 in Imboden Creek Living Center.
Shirley was born January 21, 1926 in Waynesville, IL, the daughter of Francis and Velma (Matthews) Hoffman. She graduated from Stephen Decatur High School, in 1943. She married Michael Canellas Sr. in October of 1945. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1980. She retired from Federal Kemper of Decatur. She began traveling at the age of seventeen with Joy Caylor’s female orchestra. She had wonderful performances at the Ambassador, Lock Stock & Barrel, Imboden Creek, and many other venues.
She leaves behind her daughters Marsha McArthur of Decatur, Jan (Robert) Schloz of Decatur, Judith Sinift of FL; sons Michael A. (Dottie) Canellas Jr. of Lake St. Louis, MO, Jeffrey (Laurie) Canellas of Albuquerque, NM; eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
She was reunited in Heaven with her parents, husband, two brothers, and sister.
Memorials may be directed to Imboden Creek and/or Salvation Army. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Imboden Creek for the wonderful care they provided to Shirley.
Cremation will take place at Graceland/Fairlawn Crematory. There will be no public services.
