I first met Steve in June of 2000 at the Bud Titus Memorial Run at Kenny's. I was introduced to all the guys who enjoy building and running small scale steam locomotives and little did I know that this group of guys would become a second family and the machine shop a second home to me. I knew Steve as a man of few words, but when he chose to speak… you always learned something. Steve was a true friend in every sense of the word… he was my buddy. He never got worked up about much, was always ready to lend a helping hand and lend some advice… even if it was "builder's choice." He had a warm, gentle, and kind hearted character that you couldn't help but like, a real gentleman. Steve was much more than just a friend to me… he was and is someone to whom I look up to and will always admire for the rest of my life. Even though he may not be at the machine shop on Saturday evenings any more, he lives on in my heart… giving a few words of wisdom from time to time and also reminding me that in the end, it turns out that Perfect is Best! … and not to worry because it'll be done in two weeks!My deepest sympathy goes out to the Davis family.
