Sue Ann McCoy's Obituary
Sue Ann McCoy, 81, of Decatur, IL passed away at her daughter’s home in Peoria, IL, and went to her eternal home in heaven to be with her beloved husband on March 1st, 2026.
Sue was born in Springfield, IL on October 22nd, 1944, the daughter of Genevieve McCall and was later adopted by her aunt, Helen Mulcahey. She married David McCoy Sr. on December 15, 1962; and from that union, created nine beautiful children. Sue worked as a claims payer for NECA-IBEW for 25 years. She and her husband, David, and their children were members of St. Thomas Catholic Church for 25+ years. Sue always enjoyed watching sports
(especially her grandkids) and as of lately was a die hard Caitlin Clark fan. Sue’s other hobbies included putting together puzzles, playing games on her computer, scrolling on social media, all while spending quality time with her cat, Boo-Boo. Some of her favorite movies were “The Bodyguard” and
“Sound of Music” and she loved to keep up on current events. She loved anything with angels or cardinal birds on it. Most of all, she loved and cherished her big family including her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren but nothing compared to the great love story she and her husband of 61 years created. Her and David are now together again for eternity.
Sue is survived by her children Tammara Whitworth, Helen Gulledge, Connie McCoy, Bonnie Atteberry, David (Teena) McCoy Jr., Thomas (Michelle) McCoy, Chelsea (Jill) McCoy II, Bridget (Michael) Phillips, and Megan (Maria) McCoy; 24 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David McCoy; her mother and adopted mother; grandson Tyler McCoy; son-in-law Kenneth Whitworth; and great-granddaughter Sophia Wilhelm.
Visitation for Sue will be from 10 to 11 am, Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11 am in the funeral home. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service. Condolences may be shared with the family at https://www.gracelandfairlawn.com
We would also like to thank the OSF Hospital and Hospice Care Teams for their amazing and compassionate care of our beloved Sue, as well as Megan and Maria for taking great care of both Dad and Mom until the end.
