Decatur-Thomas Eugene Cothern, 88 of Decatur, passed away 1:19 am Monday, February 07, 2011 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Gene's life will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Entombment with military honors will be in Fairlawn Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital. Gene was born November 10, 1922 in Ramsey, the son of Harold and Odessa (Halford) Cothern. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. on the Intrepid aircraft carrier where he was awarded seven battle stars. He married Betty England October 13, 1946 in Fayette County. She preceded him in death May 15, 2009.
He leaves behind one son: Donald (Kathleen) Cothern of Argenta, two daughters: Gail (James) Foster of Decatur, and Patty Lewallen of Decatur, step brother, Lloyd Cothern of Versailles, KY, step sister, Sharon Carroll of Versailles, KY, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, wife, and brother, Ronald Cothern.
