Dr. Thomas E. Davey DMD's Obituary
Mt. Zion - Thomas Edmund Davey, D.M.D., 77, of Mt. Zion, passed away, Friday, May 24, 2024.
Tom was born on February 25, 1947, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. DeeDee and Hunter Moody were his parents. Tom graduated from Taylorville High School. He married Mary Micenheimer on December 19, 1970.
Tom graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1974. From there, Tom and Mary moved to Decatur, Illinois in 1974 where they opened their dental practice. Retiring in 2011, Tom sold his practice to Dr. Eric Wherley.
Tom then invested his time in a myriad of interests: woodworking, airplanes, cars, clocks, guns, and animals. Tom soloed at age 16, and then obtained his pilot’s license. His interest in airplanes continued for the rest of his life. Ace Hardware in Mt. Zion was another place where he found his niche using his talents and know-how. He and Mary were known as Team Davey, building countless grills together, along with Tom fixing screens.
Tom died on May 24,2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. He is survived by his wife Mary. They were married for 54 years. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Jim Micenheimer (Linda), and their family. Also surviving is Nik Bodine, an “adopted” son, friend, and neighbor, and his family. Tom had many cousins across the U.S.A., and in Australia as well.
Our world lost a kind and gentle soul, one always ready and willing to help a friend or neighbor.
Mary is so grateful for the excellent care Tom received at Kirby Medical Center and Carle Foundation Hospital.
In memory of Tom, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
