Walter John Kostenski's Obituary
Walter John Kostenski, age 90, passed away on December 2, 2014 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Star of Hope mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery on Saturday, December 6th at 9:30 A.M. with services honoring and celebrating his life to follow at 10:30 A.M.
Walter was a life-long resident of Decatur, IL. He served in WWII as a member of the 96th infantry in Leyte and Okinawa, for which he received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and four battle stars.
Walter attended the University of California at Berkley and graduated from Millikin University.
He pursued a career in the construction business forming Decatur Construction, Co. Later he had A&B Motors and farming interests. In his retired years he could often be found having coffee at McDonald’s.
Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Celestine Kostenski.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Elaine, of 67 years.
He is survived by his brother, Elmer Kostenski and wife Marilyn.
He is also survived by his three children, Gary Kostenski of Vero Beach, Fl., Janice Veltkamp and husband Stan of Baneberry, Tn. and Bob Kostenski of Decatur, Il..
He is survived by special daughters, Cyndi Kostenski and Margaret Kostenski.
Surviving grandchildren: Erin Tatham and husband Tom, Kori Byard and husband Dan,
David Kostenski and wife April, Ryan Veltkamp and wife Kameron, Bethany Kostenski
Surviving great grandchildren: Sam & Chloe Tatham, Dawson & Olivia Kostenski, Joleigh Kostenski.
