Wilber Reed's Obituary
Wilber Reed, 96, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday December 13, 2015, in his home with his family by his side.
Wilber was born August 5, 1919, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of John and Elsie (Colburn) Reed. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was awarded the Silver Star and three Bronze Stars while serving as a lineman with the 927th Signal Battalion. He served in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany. After the war he served in the National Guard. Wilber was previously employed with A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company retiring in 1981 with over thirty-four years of service. He married Mildred Bush December 22, 1945. They were nine days shy of celebrating their seventieth wedding anniversary.
Wilber leaves behind his beloved wife Mildred, son W. Leonard Reed Jr., daughter Jackie Larimore (Denton), grandchildren Sheila Kaufman (Lynn), Steve Larimore (Jennifer), Desirae Harding (Jim), and Samantha Reed, and three great-grandchildren.
Wilber loved life and his family. He will be greatly missed.
Honoring Wilber’s wishes cremation services will be provided by the Graceland/Fairlawn Cremation Center. No services are planned at this time.
