William L. "Bill" Gentry's Obituary
William L. “Bill” Gentry, 70 of Decatur, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.
Bill was born October 14, 1945, in Monticello, IL to Russell and Lucy Mae (Henry) Gentry. He served in the United State Army from 1965 to 1968. He was a tire builder for Firestone for 31 years and was a member of the United Rubber Workers Local 713. Bill never met a stranger and was a man who never hesitated to impart the best advice. He was also an avid gardener and collector of many things. Bill was a loving father and grandfather and will truly be missed.
Bill is survived by his two children, Matthew David (Buffi) Gentry of Sylmar, CA and JoEllen (Aaron) Bleavins of Forsyth; two grandchildren, Chayse and Ava Bleavins; his partner, Jean Montgomery and her daughter, Terri Wallace; one brother, Joel David Gentry; three sisters, Cora Jane Camic, Carol Ann Burdine and Joyce E. Arterburn; niece, Cheryl Hathaway; nephew, Terrance York and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Herschell, Russell R. and George Gentry; four sisters, Shirley Maxedon, Maxine York, Hazel McDaniels and Marcella Mae Conour; and one niece, Donna Malloy.
Visitation will be held to celebrate the life of Bill Gentry on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to DMH Cancer Care Center.
